বাক্যে The এর ব্যবহার

‘the’ কোন নির্দিষ্ট ব্যক্তি, বস্তু বা প্রাণীকে নির্দেশ করে। যেমন- the girl, the boy, the mobile set ইত্যাদি। কোন ব্যক্তি/বস্তু যখন আমাদের কাছে সুস্পষ্ট/নির্দিষ্ট হয় তখন আমরা তার পূর্বে article বসাই। পুনরাবৃত্তি, উল্লেখিত ইত্যাদি ব্যক্তি/বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে the বসানো হয়।

A, an এবং the কে article বলা হয়। মূলত Article গুলো Noun কে Qualify করে। তাই বাক্যের ভিতরে Articles মূলত Adjective হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। Article দুই প্রকার। যেমন-

Definite Article। যেমন- The
Indefinite Article। যেমন- A এবং an।
Use of Definite Article ‘The’
1. যদি কোনকিছু নির্দিষ্ট করে বুঝায় সেক্ষেত্রে the বসে। যেমন-

The boy is playing.
She takes the pot.
2. সূর্য, চন্দ্র, পৃথিবী, গ্রহ, নক্ষত্র ইত্যাদির নামের পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন-

The Earth moves around the Sun.
The sun is up.
3. যে বস্তু বা ব্যক্তির কথা আগে বলা হয়েছে তা নির্দেশ করার জন্য ঐ ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন-

He met a boy. The boy was brilliant.
She bought some books. The books are cheap.
4. খাল, সাগর, নদী, মহাসাগর, পর্বতশ্রেণী, জাহাজ, দ্বীপপুঞ্জ, ট্রেন, উপসাগর ইত্যাদির নামের পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন-

The Suez, The Jamuna, The Atlantic, The Sea Augel, ইত্যাদি।
5. বিখ্যাত গ্রন্থ, পত্রিকা, খবরের কাগজ, ধর্মগ্রন্থ ইত্যাদির নামের পূর্বে The বসে। যেমন-

The Azad, The Jugantor, The Quran, The Shahanama ইত্যাদি।
6. তারিখের পূর্বে the বসে। যেমন-

He was born on the 4th January.
The 26th March, the 16th December ইত্যাদি।
7 . ভৌগোলিক নামের পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

The UAE , The USA , The Hindukush .
8 . জাতির নামের পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

The English , The Indians , The Bangladeshis .
9. পদবি , পেশা , খ্যাতি ইত্যাদি নামের পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

He came from the bar .
The Sher – e – Bangla .
10 . কোন Common noun কে Abstract হিসেবে বুঝানোর জন্য the বসে । যেমন-

The mother arose in her . Check the beast in you .
11 . Superlative degree এর পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

He is the best boy in the class.
12 . কোন Adjective দ্বারা বিশেষ শ্রেণীকে বুঝানোর সময় ঐ Adjective এর পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

The poor suffer.
The rich enjoy.
13 . Abstract noun দ্বারা নির্দিষ্ট গুণ বুঝাতে ঐ Abstract noun এর পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

The kindness of our chairman is well known.
14 . সাধারণত Material noun এর পূর্বে the বসে না ; কিন্তু নির্দিষ্ট কোন বস্তুর বা ব্যক্তির গুণ বুঝালে তার পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

The rice of Barishal is fine ইত্যাদি ।
15 . ঐতিহাসিক ঘটনা , বিখ্যাত প্রাসাদ , দালান ইত্যাদির নামের পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

The Twin Tower , The Crimean War , The Battle of Palassey ইত্যাদি ।
16 . দুই এর মধ্যে তুলনা বুঝাতে Comparative degree তে Adjective এর পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

He is the better of the two boys .
17 . কোন ব্যক্তি , বস্তু বা স্থানের সাথে তুলনা বুঝাতে ঐ ব্যক্তি বা বস্তুর পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

Nazrul is the Shelley of Bangladesh.
Narayangonj is the Dundee of Bangladesh.
18 . বাদ্যযন্ত্রের নামের পূর্বে the বসে । যেমন-

He plays the violin .
